McLaren MCL35

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

New on top, old at the bottom... Notice how the second element is joined to the neutral portion of the wing (in the center) for the old wing... While the new one has that element shorter and not connected

The shape of the top elements towards the Y250 is also different... They run the old wing

Great pics!
Do you think that they are using the metal part across the entry to the central tunnel to form ‘jets’ of air, or are they form small vortices to prevent stall?
Perspective - Understanding that sometimes the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.

They are vortex generators, which work basically by creating jets of spinning air

All cars have them, and they have been on cars for a very long time

They help speed the airflow trough the centre of the diffuser to help prevent the air stalling in that part which would create drag
