Red Bull RB16

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

the thing is steeper rake with the eventual intention of getting the rear suspension travel to be compressed more at high speeds than a shallow rake, during low speeds meaning rear ground clearance is still high, the entire floor is leveraged around the front wheel. this also means that at low speeds before the rear suspension is influenced by aerodynamics, a car with higher rake's front splitter/tea tray must also be higher to give clearance making way for when at high speeds the rake is reduced by a larger margin, the splitter would barely touch the ground. of course, then there is the front suspension too that will be compressed ...so the entire ground clearance and all of the cars mass is higher when rake is high

maybe this is also why the red bull racing cars scrape a lot harder at around top speed especially noticeable during qualifying, its a compromise they need to push harder

Anyone else noticed the different sidepod configuration yesterday? Max with the old, and Alex with the new.

In FP1 Max was testing the nosecone with near Mercedes-style pylons, already seen in Austria but then abandoned in favour of the standard one.

Where on the track is that.. under braking, turning...etc end of pit land is best to see rake. Gotta think that much rake is the reason the car's so "peaky" though.

Looks to be the chicane at the end of sector 2, where Albon spun in FP1.

Roll center is somewhat lower than COG judging from that pic.
