On this BMW engine: what are the reservoir (?) and perforated metal plate attached to the back end of the water pump? Opposite end of the drive input.

The 2021 DTM series is looking very good. With the arrival of two Ferraris from respected team AF Corse we can expect more manufacturers & sponsors announcing their arrival in DTM. The series appeared dead but now is in renaissance.

Today, Mercedes AMG announced they will be helping customer teams (Financially) in the 2021 DTM series. The private teams are essentially factory teams in disguise.

Good for Alex.

How much slower are these Gt3 cars compared to the old DTM spec?

There are some videos on youtube that compare DTM and GT3 cars.

Mercedes announced their return to DTM one day after the Red Bull /Ferrari announcement. Can you imagine a non-German manufacturer winning the DTM series? Incidentally, this has occurred once before in 1993 when Alfa Romeo was DTM Champion with Nicola Larini.

So I found some laptimes of Spa 2020 around 2:03 - 2:06, about the same as LMP2. A GT does 2:15 on Spa.

I understand they wanted an upgraded GT first, but they couldn’t develop the ruleset in time for 2021. Any chance on a new ruleset in future? Like an LMP2 chassis, Tourwagen body and classone 2.0 powerunit.

I do not think this plays any role. Mercedes is 100% winning today. They pulled back because they could not win even with big investments. It would have needed huge investment. So they used the money to have a go at the FE trophy.
Now Audi and BMW pulled out, Merc has a super competitive GT3 with an end 2019 update...all they need is a well equipped part truck some money to share info between the teams and they are miles ahead all competition.
This will be the cheapest DTM title in the history of DTM.

They did not update GT3 as it is too expensive. It was even too expensive to develop a competitive clutch for standing starts. The new GT3 is a "as cheap as possible" racing series...unfortunately teams and manufacturers will kill that approach. Or does anyone think RedBull and Merc will come without practically a T car in the truck behind the pits and a new engine for each race if these loopholes exist?

I still try to figure out why the GT cars. New style DTM (GTM?) feels more like some ADAC plus. Feels also a bit like they tried this road before when they switched from real touring cars to the more prototype CLK-DTM coupes style, before going spec chassis of the last few years. I miss those C-Classes and 155’s competing, although they were modified as hell.
