On a side note, HAM ran in the race with the double pillar RW in contrast with BOT who ran the single pillar RW...

GOAT was sublime today. Faster than both championship rivals, passed them on the tarmac.
I would have a hard time fitting HAM into my list of Top 30 F1 drivers. Hell, even on the current grid, I rate him 5th, talent-wise, behind Leclerc, Verstappen, Russel and Alonso(the peak one, not the current). And guys like Sainz would give him a big trouble too, I imagine.

Wow this track is fantastic! Loads of action throughout the field, so glad it’s back. I struggled to work out exactly where they were through the lap compared to other tracks but I love it lol.

Thought Ferrari would get involved a touch more but the orange guys seem to be firmly in 3rd for teams. Gutted for Bottas that he couldn’t get a run on VES but overall a good weekend.

What's the benefit of using double pillar? Stability of crosswinds?

Come on , discuss this endlessly now with arguments filled with bitterness and name calling :)
No need to discuss endlessly, argue or name call, because quite frankly, the facts don’t support your opinion.

I have a feeling they did this in at least one if not both the previous races too. It must just be personal preference.

Walters threw away P2 😐 But then again, with the sensor issue he had, Max would've got him anyway. That was unlucky.

Agreed, but not all facts are equally weighted by the people who rank. Including car dominance, and literal luck.

So, it's subjective at best, no matter how you do it.

We must've watched different races.

I don't remember the last time when the top 3 were able to keep in close proximity for so long. Usually, they chase each other for like 2 and a half laps and then the tires fall off, and they give up.

They were chasing each other for a pass, because the tires were a bit conservative, and the track surface was forgiving. First half of the race was absolutely enthralling and had plenty of overtaking between the top runners.

I can understand people always wanting more, and why not. Yes the second half was a bit dull in comparison between the top runners, but overall, far, far from a boring race 👍

Mercedes clearly the fastest car this weekend. Also the PU was clearly stronger than Honda this time which indicates that they solved their deployment issues.
Max could overtake Bottas only because the latter had cold tyres in the outlap. Once he warmed up his tyres he was storming towards Verstappen. If even he can close that gap that significantly in such a short time that's evidence enough for the Mercedes being the fastest car.

For the sake of future races I hope that the big upgrade package RedBull brought needs some setup finetune to work and what we've seen from it was not the true potential yet.

When he puts together a decent Q3 lap I think he will be a lot closer to the lead pack

Same. It’s just nice to see another nice guy doing well. Him and Ricciardo must probably be the nicest driver combo in history.

Even down the order was pretty fun, Alonso and Ocon mincing everyone/RIC’s run/MSc first overtake for position (?).
