Norris had a gear shift problem problem at the start. That's why he lost those places.

Yeah, the Ferrari seems to be an all round good car, but it wouldn't surprise me if they pushed the engine mode for the weekend given that the track needs power to be quick, so it may bight them at somepoint if it goes bang. But that is just conjecture.

I think I mentioned after the last race, my opinion that the Ferrari is outright faster than the Mclaren and that we need DR to get up to speed to have a chance at 3rd. but it looks like it could get away from us.

That said, all it takes is for a Ferrari to have a mishap and for us to finish in the points and we are 3rd again.

As far as developments, I think Mclaren had said there were more things coming up until the summer break, and then it stops, unless they spot some low hanging fruit.

I'm happy with 4th for this year, it's a throwaway year and the team is still making good progress, plus, I don't mind the extra development time for the second year of the new regulations.
Exactly - I think people forget the team adopted a new PU architecture to a less than ideal chassis, whilst lack of tokens for other more urgent changes required for the car

Besides that I'm not complaining fun racing, I think it will still be very close, the drivers might need to work harder on a Sunday - but the pace is there
We are in with a shout for making progress and on this track you can make easier progress. If we can get close to a car then we should have enough straight line speed to make a pass, inclding Ferrari, and possibly have enough to hold others off.

But as everything this year, it all depends on the tyres, and this year it seems like we set up to look after them in the race a little better so.... fingers crossed... the car has the pace to do the job tomorrow.

DRS alround tomorrow, plenty of overtakes in the race tomorrow and the front row is going to be hard racing.
Not a hard prediction to make, but it was on the nose at least :)

Excellent result to be absolutely 100% best of the rest, and great to see Daniel much more on the pace today.

Race pace and tyre management far better than Ferrari and a substantial step towards the P3 race for 2021.

The only disappointment being that we were miles and mikes off the front two teams.
Those remaining mikes are going to be a nightmare to find😛

Perhaps it should be a unit of measurement for lap time!!

Just a couple of mikes off the Red Bulls next time would be better!

Fun fact time - McLaren After 7 Races;
- 2019 : 30 points
- 2020 : 68 points
- 2021 : 110 points

Quite astonishing that the team are comfortably better off than the previous 2 years combined. It's easy to look past the progression when looking at Ferrari's resurgence, but progressing they are. Step by step!

I think Mclaren will have 3rd in the bag easy now especially with Ferrari focusing on next year. I think all teams will now switch all focus or most of the focus to 2022. Only Redbull and Merc will keep majority focus on this year still as the battle for the champions is so close. This could work in Mclarens favor to come out of the box very strong in 2022.

Can you do the same math as % of McLaren's points vs. the leading constructor after 7 races? I think we may be highest since 2012 maybe...

He said so himself. I read it in racefans.com

No offense but that's also because the leaders are for the first time since 2017? I think not running away with the championship. Lewis and Max are constantly robbing each other from points

Exactly. Even if we do finish fourth, progression is still relentless, we have pulled away from the midfield and are in a league with Ferrari now, no longer a midfield pack but the chasing pack, if you want to look at it in cycling terms.

Hopefully DR is going to be firing on all cylinders now, because that will be crucial for a fight for third.

I think it is because the teams behind us are comfortably behind us. Last year for the second half we squabled for points with Ferrari, AM, and Renault with AT getting in there a bit. Now largely it is just Ferrari that have finished ahead of us, aside from Merc and RB.

In terms of leaders, it's more about Perez and Bottas. At the start of the season they struggled and we got ahead of them for bonus points. It's not really going to happen often now and Perez and probably Bottas will go stay at the pointy end of the grid and those cheeky 3rd and 4ths will be harder to come by, but I do expect more cheeky podiums and even one or two on merit.

You don't think Merc already switched focus to 2022 despite the lack of significant upgrades they have brought this year?
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️
