Mercedes AMG F1 W03

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Stalling the main element.

Brian
The short cord is already stalling the main element
thats why every team copied Merc's short cord DRS flap last year

I thought slots on the rear wing were banned.

i dunno, it SEEMS pretty obvious to me...but i might be wrong
look at the pic of the merc..the part in red...that looks like a quick release nozzle if you ask me..almost a larger version of something you have with air compressors (concept)....and whatever oit is..it is not present on the RB or the ferrari:

I think the flow is going the opposite way. The flow is coming from the endplates holes , not going through the endplates holes. They can take air from engine air duct. And to have passive front F-duct.

That's what I would have said simply because it's sealed, I mean it doesn't have to be a high pressure line of anything. I'm not sure why they would need such a complex attachment for camera mounts when no other teams have them. I'd love to be proved woong though.

I see no such fittings on the bulkhead so can we all confirm that there is no Ducting to the front wing from the rear wing? (doesn't rule out FW F-duct though).
1) Note the shroud around the master cylinders. This could be a nozzle that nose seats over to provide air flow duct system.

2) There is typically a opening in the center of the bulkhead, so technically it is not air tight.

3) You would still have a major challenge of routing the flow to this opening in the bulkhead.

I believe that's the camera cable connection.

Yes, a connector. Had never thought about the TV type requirements before. Will have to note how the other teams do that.

i still feel something like that would be a standard connection throughout the field? should something similar at least be visible on the other cars? there might be something alluding to this in the Ferrari pic but then again it is WAY smaller and hence back to my original statement?

I think you can still stall the main element for some benefit. I have a study on this type of activity but not sure what it would say about stalling the main element when the flap is up.

Do you have a rule? I have a very hard figuring out something like this as there would never be a simple statement saying 'no slots'.

camera cable wont be that big, and moreover camera cable wont be intergrated into the chassis.

(Forgive the Sauber)

Well two teams seems to have the same connector, in roughly the same location, integrated into the chassis, so...
