Mercedes AMG F1 W03

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

And:

"But the attention is on Mercedes at the moment, not least because they did not run the new passive F Duct system which has been cleared by the FIA’s Charlie Whiting. Perhaps we will see it on the car tomorrow. It’s a powerful tool, but its benefit will not be seen here. Malaysia and especially China with its long straight will really show the benefit." - James allan

maybe they decided to take the new ducted wings off the car for the reason that they might only have one each or something..especially since it was quite tricky in the wet. but this boasts well if you ask me...since there is obviously an "X-amount" of time in the pocket due to an invention that wasnt even present on the car today.

Or if there is minimal benefit on the Australian circuit then they may be cautious in running it here and risking a protest by one of the other teams and a change of mind by the FIA. If it's going to make a big difference in the next couple of races then even if it is protested after the race they may still benefit for that one race.

Just saw MIchael runs....damn he looks way more aggressive and confident compared to last season....was flying around the half-wet track...brilliant.

That is without a doubt the shadow of the top plane winglet, that is opened.
You're just plain wrong - look at the shape of the small plate on the end of the DRS flap that when closed will rotate down to cover that hole. It's clear as day that it's not a shadow.
What? Can you see that when it comes down, on the closed position, it will not cover the shadow at all? It´s not even the right shape, I have no idea how you can doubt it´s a shadow.
Looks like you were wrong after all Rikhart. Better get some new glasses!!

They must have opted for the super extra large camera connection this year then as it normally works on a quarter inch multi jack.

It looks more like a nozzle to me.

Its a hole in rear wing...

But isn't it bit too small to do such big things?

Look, if you think those two pics show the same thing, not sure what to say. Not to mention that if you actually understand how the supposed system works, you´d know that (hydraulic actuator?) hole has nothing to do with it... It has to be all along the wing, to stall it... Not a hole that would blow zero air on the wing, because of the forward velocity of the car.

Something like this:

Very good shots and analyses. I wonder if we could get a copy each of Schumacher's and Rosberg's contracts as well while they're at it as I would like to study all the clauses over breakfast tomorrow. Some blueprints and early design pointers pertaining to the W04 would also be good. Thanks in advance.

Are ppl being ignorant on purpose? I mean its quite clear from the pics that we got both the right and left side hole visible! There are 2 holes, thats it.

Then what it does is clearly not decided but they are there they are not shadows etc etc etc
