Renault R30

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Anyway, thanks for the compliments.

Renault's last visible update was this little fin behind the brake ducts. Kubica tested the two different brake ducts (square/round) with and without it...

(comparison Suzuka/Spa)

And according to Kubica (in the last podcast), his diffuser was damaged before Qualifiyng. The team tried to fix it rapidly between each Q session and the car was better in Q3... bu still with a damaged diffuser...
That means RK was never able to show the real potential of the car... He says that there was a big margin of progression after FP ... but in Qualiy the diffuser was damaged and in the race a wheel was gone...

Interesting picture. http://i29.servimg.com/u/f29/14/79/55/26/kj10.jpg That curvy carbon piece along the top of the radiator explains why the R30 have a bulge on the left sidepod. http://i29.servimg.com/u/f29/14/79/55/26/_a8c7110.jpg Must be on of the F-duct air channels, maybe the one the pilot blocks ? http://i29.servimg.com/u/f29/14/79/55/26/d10jpn10.jpg
This F-duct is definitely complex.

This is quite good view on the plumbing before the smash.

The main plane on the Renault is much bigger than on many other cars.

Renault R30 had has ten front wings, five floors, two engine covers, six rear wing packages, seven front and three rear brake duct packages
Now that's what you call car development.

Well, that's it from Renault in this season. R30 was one of the most interesting cars there, I hope that R31 will be far better than R30 was in Bahrain, it would be good platform for them to develop next car as fast and successful as it's been this season.

We should receive shortly some information about R31, their KERS and some direction of their development, winter will be short and interesting. In 2009 Renault were using KERS of Magneti Marelli same as Ferrari, I guess it won't be different next year, crucial thing will be to improve it to be as good as Zytek's KERS.

I agree on :R30 was one of the most interesting cars in 2010 developmentwise...it morphed almost constantly .
But to call this morphing a success is compared to Mercedes at least questionable.
The State of affairs remained like it was at the start of the season .These two cars are constantly a fair bit behind the RedBulls and can beat Mclaren or Ferrari only when those have a bad day or in the hands of the less performing driver really .
So to call the development of Renault a success and say Mercedes was a mess is just not reflecting in the relative performance of the two cars over the course of this season.
Both were never really in contention for a win speedwise and this did not change a minute till now.
