From what I have read, most of that has to do with the engine production as well. Cutting 10,000+ engines is going to cost some jobs.

And why not run leaner if you can? That is the point of business, to increase your profits.

Seriously a small volume manufacturer like Ferrari will have to either sell out sooner or later or hit the wall and get swallowed up.

Isn't that what Fiat already did buy owning 85% of Ferrari?

If you believe that, then you realy should read up on the current world economics.
Or just try a simple comparison with the rest of the vehicle industry.
Unless Ferrari make some very big changes it could be gone inside 18 Months.
Getting rid of Montezemolo is an essential first move IMO.

18 month is a bit quick but the idea is right.
If the Fiat/chrysler partnership goes sour and both companies bleed cash(c'mon, its up there with the sun rising everyday in terms of likelihood)
then the golden goose Ferrari would be flogged to some oil rich arab, or a gleefull auto maker in the Mould of VeeDub or Beemer. Mercedes wouldnt touch Fezza as they have problems of their own...ahem smart maybach...
More could have been done.

I guess I will just have to check back on this thread in 18 months when all the Ferrari dealerships and F1 team are gone.

I won't argue about the auto industry as a whole. The world economics isn't the greatest either (although we have done well lately with the Euro crashing, but thats a whole different thread).

In the meantime, I will continue to support the company that won't be around in 18 months, I better get that next service in before then.

First we have Mercedes and Chrysler, BMW and Rover, then Geely and Volvo, now you are talking Detroit and Ferrari?

What is this world coming to?

Detroit & Italy? That would mean the same car company making the 3 best looking cars ever made - the F40, Enzo and the 1968 Ford Mustang GT 390 CID Fastback.

I've got to lie down for a while now.....Image

The program is on and it would seem that Ferrari gains much of its funding from a form of modern slavery.
There you go Andrew, there is even more money in that than in the oil industry.
