Mercedes AMG F1 W03

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Might be, cant really see clearly. maybe someone know the difference between the endplates and can confirm? is this from today?
It's not the old one. The endplates are of the new variety. Also, it clearly has the thin second upper cascade.

Although, if my eyes don't deceive me: the R-element looks missing, with a small horizontal wing in its place.

Q2 Michael Schumacher - 1:22.671
The grip levels have reduced this year according to S.Vettel, so we can expect the timing to remain the same or slightly lesser this year.
hmm...i dont know if I would buy any lip service Red Bull drivers are giving out at this stage TBH....

Also qualifying would have been on soft tyres.

In a 10-12 Lap run it is for the race not qualifying. I am sure MSC wont use DRS. There is 1-1.5s in between the Hard & Soft. Another 1s for DRS. 2-2.5s in there. And expect atleast 1-1.5s for fuel load.

So expect a 3-4s Lap Faster than what MSC did. They will understand the car more & improve on setups. I think Mercedes can do a lap in the high 1-20's or low 1-21's atleast. Assuming they DID not use DRS for this stint. The car is a HUGE STEP UP from last year.

They did 1-22.5 odd last year.

Very much so... big step, however, i also suspect RB and at least Macca would have taken a step forward. I cant see Merc making a 1.5 second gain on this car, and them not making anything at all. I expect at least 0.5 from them both?
What do you think Mr.S?

Really hard to say who is sand bagging at the time, the smaller teams are getting faster , SFI is expected to be quick and the car looks quick too .

Being a racing driver means you are racing with other people. And if you no longer go for a gap that exists, you are no longer a racing driver because we are competing, competing to win...

@ Gerhardsa - Mercedes was around 1.2-1.3 Odd Per Lap slow which varied from 1-1.5s.

But without EBD they would be around 0.8-1s odd Per Lap atleast. Mercedes with their SWB gained much less from RBR or Mclaren. So I think they will gain 0.5 off a second compared to that.

ofcourse both RBR & Mclaren will be looking to improve. But Mercedes have more to improve. Their fat Ugly Sidepods & SWB lost a lot of time. Just sleeker elegant looking Sidepods with a bigger undercut & a LWB will give them more time. RBR does not have HUGE scope for improvement,Mercedes does.

I think given how hard Mercedes have worked on W03 & with their new F-duct if it works properly Mercedes CAN Fight RBR.

Ross Brawn have stated clearly they were looking to challenge & RBR & want 2 race Wins -> MSC's Return Win & Nico's 1st win.
