Mercedes AMG F1 W03

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

They seem to straddle the black heat protection, there are burn marks above as well.

The burn above seems more concentrated so that would seem to indicate the exhaust flow flares out as it spills over the side of the side pod.

The burn marks are like flow viz. Can we see a Coanda effect ?

... or it could be heat from underneath.

Ferraripilot,

I think the swan support for the beam wing is blowing the mini-diffuser. Thoughts? AMUS seems to think there is an opening somewhere collecting the exhaust gases. I don't see one.

My thought would be: why is that useful?

A 1:26.592 on his first lap on the fourth stint istn`t that bad though. I hope the second to RBR isn`t what we have to expect.

They cant have long left on the race sims?? I reckon Webber started his race sim half an hour before Schu so impossible to compare times now.(impossible I know as its testing  )

So I guess we can only get an idea for them for overall time to complete x number of laps?? how many laps would be a race sim?

If you could see anything there, the arrows on the image do a good job of hiding it.

RBR & AMG are both mysterious about their rear wings. Everytime Michael or Webber comes in they close the rearwing with a cloth

i would say coanda and magnus-effect? why magnus: cause the car is changing the direction quickly in a corner ?

I’m not sure where people are seeing these ‘poor’ times.

MS has just done 34 laps straight and is still in the 27s. Hes not even finished yet, he’s still on track.

Just looking at the Redbull times and they are not that fast on these super long runs. Unless I’m reading it wrong of course.

I still dont understand where that little bit in the middle of the diffuser comes from, does it take air from above the floor?
