No sample is required after a DNF.
What would be the point? Even if there wasn't enough, it would get you disqualified from a race that you didn't finish. The didn't finish is punishment in itself, isn't it?
If one were doing something naughty with the fuel, it might give the FIA the chance to catch that and prevent it in other events. Please note everyone that I'm not saying anyone is doing anything naughty here, this is just a general thought about the fuel sampling procedure.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Just before he DNF'ed Max complained of 'battery problems' and was told the battery is fine we know what it is. Anyone hear anymore on this?

Some are saying fuel pumps but not which one, some say the AT was MGUK, some say it was oil pumps, some say it was battery related, some say the track rod was bent.

How does one bend a track rod during a pit stop? The jack is nowhere near it. Maybe the wheel was turned while they dropped it? Although that seems low energy compared to riding curbs with several hundred lbs of downforce on the wheel. Bending implies a metal part was damaged, not the CF spar.

meh just rumours at the moment. Let's just wait and see what Red Bull say.


this just seems a little strange to me.. they did pitstops in pre season testing. How could this vulnerability suddenly surprise them when it matters?

They allegedly cut a lot of weight for this race. Maybe some of that was in the suspension and steering arms? Maybe too much?

With respect to scarbs, that doesn't really explain why Max was saying it was getting worse!

Well the facts are the track rod is bent and it never happened before. It doesn't really matter that it never happened in testing but I agree that it's strange to occur now (but then again, that's Murphy's law :lol: )

FP3 pit stop example where he has wheel removal issue. Overall the pit stops are gentle, even when the jack man hits the drop trigger. If there's a guy tugging on a stuck wheel maybe that's something. Still seems unlikely though.

On the other hand, you can see how much the steering wheel is moving due to the tire change. So quite a bit of force is transmitted.

It's not very clear, but sometimes the rods are metallic, with a carbon/aero shroud. A carbon fibre track rod would not deform, it would simply shatter. So it seems as though the core is metallic.
