Force India VJM04 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Well as we found out in 2009 with Brawn sometimes too extreme an undercut is not good

Hm, are those the new intermediates? Why would they be running those? Testing the degredation on a dry track maybe?

They're usually used to complete installation laps on a cold track.

@Raymondu999:
Really was that the big issue of the BGP001? I thought it was mainly a tire issue, I do remember an upgrade they got during the season, can't remember suffering from it due to the car being to anorexic  .

Ok found it, this post by Bar555 tell's it quite nicely:

The frontal sidepod undercut opening was ocassionally used by the team . For example it was used at China and Italy , but it was not at Silverstone and Singapore . At Monza’s image you can see the panel described previously by scarbs . I can post more images from other races if you like to or higher versions of the ones i have posted here .

The FI sidepods are far more undercut and tight above the floor than the Brawn...

I've really warmed to Force India over the years.

Because.... in no particular order...

1. Scottish driver... I'm Scottish!
2. A sponsor from Glasgow... I'm from Glasgow!
3. McLaren supported... I'm a McLaren fan
4. Merc engine and KERS... I have to like Mercedes engines as McLaren have them, plus their history with McLaren!
5. There's lots of Indian people in Scotland and we share their national dish!
6. Their car was lovely last year and even better this year.

Really hope they do well.

I never heard that. As far as I knew their extreme sidepods were one of their strengths. (more undercut, more air over diffuser)

That diffuser looks incredibly booring...... I already miss the DDD, but oh well as long as overtaking is easier I am happy.
