Mercedes AMG F1 W04

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Guys, we need some pics of the Merc this afternoon. According to Auto Motor und Sport it took some time this morning to change some parts.

I read it was mainly sensors and monitoring devices that took time to install/remove.

Yesterday Lewis ran with the FDRS installed, which is designed to stall the centre of the rear wing. Would it be possible to have a similar device fitted to the rear wing end-plates, that blows inwards out of holes/slots on the inside of the end-plates to stall the outer portions of the rear wing?
Perhaps the regs prohibit 'holes' in the rear end plate body work region?

The outside is almost impossible to stall. The flow is very attached on the back of the wing and end plate there. Also the upwash is greatest on the outer edge.
It would take tremendous amounts of momentum energy.
It's easier to stall the weakest flow on the wing, which happens to be in the middle. This flow is the weakest and most sensitive.
For Sure!!

Ferrari has a solid single profile towards the inside of the tyre. Mercedes on the other hand simply have 5 profiles.

think they'll close off some of the gaps between the elements on the inside?
It looks like a very skilled technique to mold ferrari's wing though.

I believe mercedes are using the inboard front wing slots to feed the sidepods/barge boards as opposed to most everyone else who include inboard slots on the 3rd or 4th elements only largely leaving the main plane alone. And I'm not certain of this bit yet but it may be possible Merc's solution runs more rake on the front wing as well which is probably specific to this different design philosophy.

Maybe he didn't know that it was already posted. Just ignore it if you already know it, otherwise enjoy it.

Thanks for the pics. The dip in the floor is not quite in focus but it's certainly larger and deeper than I previously imagined it to be.

Isn't the coanda exhaust supposed to blow inwards where the flo-vis is ? Yet it looks like the paint has barely moved.

What's your take on this guys ?

Also... Is that flow seperation on the last pic ?
