Anyone else think the new monkey seat is more about managing the exhaust gasses, than generating down-force?

I think they manage exhaust gasses to generate downforce.

Plus they are in that spot, around the exhaust, because it's a relative free of regulation zone on the car. Even in the days of the twin exhaust systems, up and down the side pods, etc, they still had a small wing in that area at high downforce circuits.

The exhaust just makes it work as a small blown wing. quite fun, but not always useful (when you need the extra downforce, its not always there because they banned off-throttle running)

Looks like Merc brought Spa & Monza-spec 2015 RW's to Canada: https://twitter.com/albertfabrega/statu ... 9871232000

What I mean, is it looks to generates very little down-force itself.

Compare that, to this monstrosity they ran not that long ago.

The very boxed in solutions looks like they were trying to take the exhaust gasses out of the (CFD) solutions. With time and calculations comes understanding how and when the seat is "blown" and what effect it has on rear downforce and drag.

Without off throttle blowing, the only real advantage you can get is in high speed corners and a bit at the exit of medium corners. For the rest it just generates more drag then downforce, especially when you don't need it.

Is the bottom FW new, or is it just an illusion?: https://twitter.com/andihaupt1/status/7 ... 7534651392

I know that, but is the one below new? I think they're just running a lower AOA, but I'm not sure.

Interesting to see Merc bring three different rear wings (Spa/Monza/Normal).

I imagine their simulations show that they all produce a similar lap time in Montreal, but they're just waiting to see where the competition (and weather) is and whether they're likely to need to overtake / defend position during the race.

I'm not sure if the vortex generators (circled) are a new or old development:

As reported by f1analisitecnica, it's more likely two wing specs.

Look at Morteza's photos
-1st rear wing is Spa-like; last picture is the McDonald one
Here's the Monza RW (2015, http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/wp-content/u ... it-RGB.jpg)

-the photo with both front wings: upper one seems the Monaco one (look at Sevach previous photos) with vortex generators; lower one seems the new one (Sevach's Canada), sharper 4th and 5th elements
RE: new FW, as much as camera angle/FW AoA, look for comparison at PETRONAS logo, how the letters arfar from the edges of the 5th element (new one, Sevach's Canada), whilst the old one (Sevach's Monaco) has thelogo near the lower edge of the 5th element
