Mercedes AMG F1 W07

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Yes, in this picture it looks to be the crash structure, and the tip is just painted black.

'[The nose will] remain true to the Mercedes concept, but should otherwise look significantly different.'
You tell me, man.
Love when Toto goes on and says some enigmatic conundrum wrapped in a riddle.

The nose shown on the W06 is the launch spec/first iteration nose. Later on in 2016 Mercedes updated the nose to design very similar to the W07's.
Thank you.

In my previous post I meant to say 2015 not 2016.

Toto Wolff has said that the nose will be very innovative. I guess it may take some of the elements (duct concept) from the 2015 development.

The crash structure may be the lump at the very top of the side pod opening. This lump may simply be a cooling outlet.
The are it's located in doesn't have restrictions on openings in the bodywork IIRC.
For Sure!!

Pardon me if this is a stupid notion, but if an opening is legal there, what if it's the reason for the unusually large air intake?

W07 floor detail, note the additional STR-esque floor slots added to combat tyre squirt

Is the back of the floor made of metal purely because of radiated heat from the wheel?

I would guess that metal is not for heat, but for debris off the track.

By debris I mean just general dirt and things.

Ah, of course, we've seen a few floors destroyed by punctures or just debris.

That is some nice detail to the floor. How exactly is the air redirected to reduce "tire squirt?"
