Hamilton with the #1 on the car in FP.

Also happens to be a nice high-res photo:

i had an idea they might converge, having the same architecture and being only 30 miles apart

Watching Lewis and Max in S3, they were both really steering with the power weren't they, that must need great driveability too. And is that a bit of an advantage over the Ferrari unit? Part of the difference in S3?

Could it be due to where they place the microphone? could that have an impact?

Good pole for Lewis, surprised to see Bottas get within two tenths with the way qualifying was shaping up.

Only chance we see a good race is if Max jumps Lewis at the start.

OK interesting point. When I play the video using ear buds on my phone I can hear the "honda" burbling, but the burbling is not so apparent on my PC stereo speakers. I think others might have to adjust their sound equalizer. I am hearing the engine burbling right through the entire lap and whole lot of burbbling in the brake zones like the Honda.

I’ll try and find videos from earlier in the year but it’s def just a mic position change. That babbling sound has been there all year. Even Ferrari have it.

Honda though have a serious babble

I am hearing at strongly like the honda with these sound settings. Never heard it this strongly before! Not sure if there was some software changes from Merc? Listening on my galaxy s10 with tuned ear buds. I will try other onboards from earlier races.

Wasn't Mercedes supposedly testing a spec 4 PU in FP1? But something went wrong and they had to revert?

It was indeed a new 2020 spec engine

There was one live-ticker writing that some teams in the paddock claimed Bottas' Mercedes was running a 2020 spec test engine with 2 tenths a lap advantage.

ted kravitz mentioned something on air during one of the sessions this weekend, and i assume a lot of other people just copied or paraphrased what he said.

I don't remember exactly what he said, but it was based on a conversation he had with Andy Cowell. I believe it was something along the lines of Bottas was using an engine that used some concepts similar to the 2020 spec, and that would be worth up to 2 tenths a lap.

My interpretation of this, would be that they ran a 2019 spec 3 engine with 2020 spec 1 software/mappings. Running an actual 2020 spec motor is unlikely in my opinion as it would most likely require different packaging and cooling, since Mercedes is rumored to be making a big change.
