That was only Grosjean and by the time he pitted, his tyres had been dead for several laps.

That Merc PU though is a beast in quali mode... Easily took 0.5 to 0.6 off the straights.

We just saw that Hulk is a very adaptable driver. Only a few FP sessions and beating Stroll, who made all the preseason and races with the same car...
Arguably Red Bull may prefer Hulkenberg to Vettel, as Hulkenberg has shown he can perform close to Ricciardo in a Renault RS19 with rear instability issues (whereas Vettel seems to struggle badly in cars with rear instability).

Makes me wonder if Perez has not been extracting the full potential of the RP20 even though he is a fine driver. If so, maybe Perez is not such a good candidate for Red Bull after all. :?:

Hulkenberg would even be available for Red Bull ASAP too on say a 1.25 year deal (with Albon back to AlphaTauri), albeit poor old Kvyat out of F1 again.

And again for the 2nd time in a row, Gasly with RB15 chassis beats Albon with RB16 and the same engine.
AT01 is not an exact RB15 (Red Bull aren't using those listed parts rules as aggressively as Mercedes & Racing Point), and Albon also performed relatively better in the Faenza team. Red Bull need another driver who can hustle a car with rear-end instability, which Hulkenberg already proved he can do at Renault.

Hard tyres are useless if SC comes out like with Mags/Albon last week.
It's a two-stop race so pit timing won't be as critical.

Hard-Medium-Medium may allow for overtaking and attacking in the middle-stint or final-stint compared to Medium-Hard-Medium or Medium-Medium-Hard.

Look at Brooklands and Luffield, long low speed corners that require trail braking. Just as we saw in Hungary, that car is stupidly twitchy in the transition from braking to acceleration and cornering. There's a huge chunk of time fixing that, because the car clearly makes more downforce than the Racing Point, clearly.

Pit lane time is short at Silverstone...we might see some 3 stoppers.

Verstappens highest place is p3 barring any issues with the mercs so it really doesn’t matter when he gets past hulk imo...
Safety car and issues aside, if Max can have a clean first lap there may actually be more opportunities than you may think.

In my opinion the fastest time will be a combination of 2 hards and 1 medium. Starting on the Hards and finishing on the medium will yield the fastest strategy.

During the first stint, I don't expect the Mediums of the Mercs to hold for long - especially as I do expect Lewis to fight for first position. There's a good chance they start losing a bit of pace until they have enough gap to pit - if they will even get that luxury. Max will need to make sure to stay as close as possible during this time.

With this strategy, if Max can finish on the Mediums and Mercs are on the Hards, there might be a possibility to go on the attack on some fresher and softer rubber.

Granted that the RB16 has less pace than the Mercs, but Honda giving both drivers a new PU, in my opinion is a sign that the plan to finish the year with no penalties is out of the window. I expect a more aggressive mapping tomorrow to make up for part of the package's deficit.

Until RB get the chassis together, that's the only thing they can do. It's clear that this year is all but lost so at this point it's either go all out or go home.

And if there's a Safety Car? Let's just hope it happens after the Mercs pit and before Max pits.
Yeah with the mercs being on hards at the end will allow them to go harder and longer than vers. And with the pace advantage I don’t really see him as a threat....
What was that again?

Awesome!! Hards was the right thing! Also that looks good for Barcelona! It will be 35° all weekend, and it's a track where the front left also suffers a lot

Perfect result.Really amazing that RB can keep the hard tyre so long compared to other teams.Albon’s pace is really good too.I think he can easily get P4 if he has a better start position.
Really cant believe RB can win a race because the Merceds is so fast this season.

And that race was won by merit, the car and Max was better this time. Interesting if Mercedes can't solve that tyre degradation issue next week
