Looks lovely, have the resurfaced the whole circuit? Always loved racing on this track, and it makes for great racing.
I'll have to wait a bit to confirm that - surprisingly little intel out there about the work, beyond what we can see from the photograph.

Will keep digging.

Yeah I think they have resurfaced the entire track. Not the run off areas though obviously.

pirelli quote about new surface

The Tarmac is new and actually we went there. Thanks to our people in Turkey, we had the chance to use a laser and measure the asphalt. It is quite smooth, it is very new. If I have to give you an idea of the behaviour that I am expecting, it is probably quite in line with what we have seen in Portimao.
they also dont think tyre deg will be a big problem, despite turn 8
to give you an idea, in general Istanbul is less severe than Spa and Silverstone. So we are not talking about a circuit that has a higher severity compared to circuits that we know better.

Easy one stop with medium and hard. Left side graining may be an issue.

Formula 2 driver Juri Vips will join Red Bull and sister Formula 1 team AlphaTauri to serve as its reserve driver for this weekend’s Turkish Grand Prix.

Vips, 20, has been part of the Red Bull junior programme since the end of 2018, and had been due to race in Super Formula this year, only for continuing travel restrictions to complicate his plans.

Vips has instead made appearances in both F2 and the Formula Regional European Championship, and will now serve as Red Bull’s reserve driver in Istanbul this weekend.

Red Bull announced on Twitter that Vips had completed the required 300km in an F1 car to gain an FIA superlicence, meaning he would be eligible to race if required.

Vips will deputise for regular Red Bull and AlphaTauri reserves Sebastian Buemi and Sergio Sette Camara, both of whom are tied up with other commitments this weekend. Buemi is racing for Toyota in the FIA World Endurance Championship season finale in Bahrain.

Vips currently has 32 superlicence points to his name accrued through junior categories, but benefits from the recent changes to the FIA requirements that allow drivers with more than 30 points to be eligible if their programmes were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vips is yet to make an appearance in Super Formula this year, with Red Bull appearing to have abandoned plans for him to feature in the Japanese series.

Any reason to think Max can push the Mercs close this week or is this a Merc track?

Can anyone from the midfield over perform for a podium scrap?

Apparently it's a 75% full throttle track now with these cars, so on pure pace, probably not, no. If there are surprises, then probably mainly due to the tires (not getting to temperature and/or graining)

seems like there is no grip at all in FP1, and everyone is running the additional set of hard tires, to get it out of the way
