Commentators talking about the DRS being used/not used by Hamilton. The view down the pit straight showed the DRS open but the top speed was only about 185mph. With DRS open, the top speed is a lot more than 185mph on that straight. They'd already mentioned that Hamilton wasn't using 8th on the straight - something that had been obvious earlier too. No one looks very stressed in the garage. I still think Mercedes are playing games. No idea why they would unless they think they've got something very silly-fast and don't want to make it obvious.

The car has been a handful but they're not running top gear on straights. Something fishy is going on.
I think this time it is not the case. Maybe they are faster than they showed but not best I think. Hamilton spin at last turn is not match with not using 8th gear and they had more max speed in the pocket.

Bah. Every pre-season test is a lot like this. People thinking/hoping that one team or another passed mercedes.
Then, after a few races in, when they demolished everyone, people switch to talking about that the season is in the bag for them...
No, this year, it is different. You guys dont see it?! It is beyond only the car. Lewis is not happy about his deal, the team and the car.
You talked to him?

Where do you guys get half this stuff?
Simple, I have been watching F1 for the last 20 years. Observation mate. :) Merc is not happy period. This is the worst testing they have undertaken for the last decade.

And Kimi for the win, sainsz is the bad guy there.

Sky and mark hughes are clueless, i don't know what screens they are watching. On his currently fastest lap 1.30.0 Hamilton was using 8th gear as usual and had the same top speed more or less as verstappen did on his fastest lap 1.28.9. Both around 308-310 kmh on main straight.
Interesting. In the lap he did after his final turn spin, his top speed on the start straight was about 300kmh according to the speed showing on the screen looking down the straight (not the onboard graphic).

As I said, it's all a bit odd.

Entirely possible that the rules around the floor edge/diffuser fences has hit Mercedes massively, but I'd be surprised if they were suddenly more than 1 second slower than Red Bull because of that rule change.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Sainz barged past Raikkonen on an in-lap, which seems very strange. :?: :wtf:
Sainz looks very tense behind the wheel of a Ferrari. He drives very carefully. It will be a very tough season for him compared to Charles

That spin was tires that were not up to temp and too aggressive with the throttle.

Totally agree on the bold part. Look at the pecking order analysis of Mark Hughes from yesterday:

Mercedes 1m28.3s
Red Bull 1m28.5s
McLaren 1m28.65s
Aston Martin 1m28.7s
AlphaTauri 1m29.1s
Ferrari 1m29.5s
Alpine 1m29.5s
Alfa Romeo 1m30.4s
Williams 1m31.3s
Haas 1m32.45s

Just to name the 3 most clear ones: Alfa Romeo already was faster by 6 tenths, Haas by 1 second and Williams by 1.1 seconds than what's predicted here. And it's still only testing, not Q3.

All in all, the only team that can really say they had a bad testing is Aston. Other than that, not much to draw given all of the variables.

The DRS thing was confusing.. perhaps he was talking about this?

one of the better indicators is corner minimum speeds, which Red Bull and Mercedes are both clear of the field in.

Did Hamilton forget to warm them up or is it one of things what makes that 1-2 tenth gap between best and second. Ham's feeling of he need to push earlier/harder to gain time is my main point by the way.

Then where is HAM losing time? It's not all down to PU, as he was clearing 310kph on his best attempt.
