All things considered it was a good season - Kubica

Following his win in the Canadian Grand Prix, Robert Kubica held the lead in the 2008 Formula One Drivers' Championship. The BMW Sauber F1 Team driver looks back on a successful first half of the season and hopes for another performance improvement in 2009.

"In the early stages of the season we had excellent reliability and strong pace, consequently, with seven races contested, I unexpectedly held the championship lead," says Robert Kubica, who had 42 points to his tally after the seventh race of the season. McLaren's Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari's Felipe Massa - his closest rivals at that point in time - had each scored five points less.

"I secured a total of seven podium finishes and scored points in 14 races," adds the Pole. "All things considered it was a good season. It goes without saying that I am very happy that I was able to give the BMW Sauber F1 Team its maiden GP win."

When it comes to the 2009 season, Robert hopes to perform at the same level as in 2008 - to maintain this level throughout the entire season. "Doing as well will be anything but easy as we will have to cope with a large number of challenges next year," admits the 23-year old. "My task will be to give my very best and to avoid making mistakes. The rest is not really in my hands."
