Barrichello on top, Alonso crashes

On the first day of testing at Jerez de la Frontera, Rubens Barrichello, in his BGP 001, was the fastest man on track. The Brazilian was followed by Renault's Fernando Alonso, who suffered a heavy crash in the morning session, and Williams F1 test driver Nico Hulkenberg. The McLaren Mercedes Team decided to stay in the garage and will only begin testing tomorrow.
