A step towards the top - Kubica

The BMW Sauber F1 Team left Istanbul with two more points to its tally. Robert Kubica - who finished seventh in the Turkish Grand Prix - and Nick Heidfeld are both of the opinion that the Munich and Hinwil based squad is on the right path.

"It wasn't a step backwards but a step towards the top," said Robert Kubica, after working hard for the two points he scored in the seventh round of the 2009 Formula One World Championship. Right up to the dying seconds of the race the Pole had to give his very best in order to fend off the pressure from Toyota's Timo Glock and thereby successfully defend his seventh place.

For his team-mate Nick Heidfeld, however, the race at the Bosporus was ill-fated right from the start: due to brake and tyre problems encountered in the opening stages of the race, securing a good result proved to be virtually impossible for the German. "My strategy also was good but due to the problems I had to cope with on lap one we just couldn't benefit from it," revealed Nick. Nonetheless, he comes to a positive conclusion regarding the development of the BMW Sauber F1.09. "As I see it, we are at least able to match the progress of the other teams."
