Renault lodges fresh protest against Racing Point

Following today’s Hungarian Grand Prix, the Renault DP World F1 Team has lodged another protest concerning the legality of the 2020 F1 car of the Racing Point outfit.

During the Styrian Grand Prix, the French outfit filed an official protest against the Silverstone-based squad, claiming that Racing Point’s RP20 features parts that are identical to those of Mercedes’ 2020 car, the W10 The parts in questions were the front and rear brake ducts that have been added to the Listed Parts of the 2020 F1 Sporting Regulations. The Listed Parts include car parts that must be designed by the teams themselves.

Following last weekend’s protest, FIA Technical Department representative was asked to seal and impound the relevant parts of cars 11 and 18 in preparation for conducting an analysis of those pieces. Mercedes has also been asked to provide the governing body with the relevant parts from its W10 so that the FIA can conclude a detailed investigation into the matter.

Following the race of the 2020 Hungarian Grand Prix, Renault lodged an identical protest against RP relating to the exact same matter. The Racing Point team admitted that „the relevant parts targeted by these two protests and used during both, the race of the 2020 Styrian Grand Prix and the race of the 2020 Hungarian Grand Prix are the same,” said the FIA statement.

As the brake ducts used by Racing Point in the Styrian and the Hungarian Grands Prix are identical, the governing body did not feel necessary to proceed again with a sealing and an impounding of the relevant parts.

Furthermore, Renault has accepted that „the analysis to be performed by the FIA Technical Department representative and the report to be submitted to the Stewards as well as any evidences and discussions relating to the Protest shall also be valid to address the second protest lodged by Renault following the race of the 2020 Hungarian Grand Prix.”

A Renault statement read: "We confirm that Renault DP World F1 Team has submitted a request to the Stewards of the Event for clarification on the legality of the Racing Point RP20.

"We have no further comment on this matter until the Stewards have arrived at a decision."
