Formula E: Nick Cassidy wins Berlin E-Prix thriller, Rowland secures championship title

Jaguar driver Nick Cassidy came out on top at the thrilling Berlin E-Prix while Nissan racer Oliver Rowland secured the championship title with two races left to go in 2025. F1Technical's senior writer Balazs Szabo reports on Round 14 from the Tempelhor Airport Circuit.
Having secured pole position in dominant fashion, Pascal Wehrlein maintained the lead at the start despite a bit of a challenge from Dan Ticktum.
McLaren driver Taylor Barnard had a great start and managed to move up the order to end the opening lap in P3. Championship leader Oliver Rowland also made up some spots, finishing Lap 1 in P7.
There were several position changes behind race leader Wehrlein, with Nico Mueller having moved up to fourth behind the Porsche driver, Ticktum and da Costa.
Having led the opening laps, Wehrlein lost the lead to Ticktum, who made his overtaking manoeuvre at the hairpin. The reigning champion did not fight hard as he could start to save some energy behind the Cupra Kiro.
In the meantime, Ticktum's team-mate David Beckmann activated the attack mode and worked his way up into the lead to provide some vital slipstream for the Briton.

However, Beckmann did not spend much time at the front as Ticktum regained the lead, and he lost further three places to the Porsche pair Wehrlein and da Costa and Robin Frijns.
The reigning champion did not wait long to regain the lead. In the meantime, McLaren driver Taylor Barnard made his way up into the lead and started to build up a margin from the rest of the pack.
However, the Briton's work came undone as the safety car was deployed after Sebastien Buemi came to a stop at Turn 2.
When the action continued, Barnard elected to take his first attack mode. The McLaren driver dropped back to fourth, but he quickly regained the lead. Using his power boost, he built up a margin of over 1.7s, but he lost his advantage due to another safety car interruption.
The Porsche Taycan Safety Car was deployed after Sam Bird and Nico Mueller came together. The Brit looked for a lunge up the inside at the hairpin before the Swiss driver moved his Andretti machine over.
When the action resumed, loads of drivers jumped for attack mode, including Wehrlein. The German jumped up to second before he regained the lead from Barnard.
However, using his power boost, championship leader Rowland dived into the lead with a major move, albeit Evans quickly replaced him at the front of the field.
Starting from P20 on the grid, Nick Cassidy worked his way up to second before the jumped up to the front of the field. The Kiwi looked good on energy and built a margin from former Formula E champion Jake Dennis while Jean Eric Vergne moved into third.
With only a lap and a half left to go, full course yellow was deployed as Frijns got off the track. However, nothing could stop Cassidy from taking a memorable win from Dennis and Verge.
Rowland finished in fourth, but this was enough for the Nissan driver to secure the world championship title. Yesterday's race winner Mitch Evans finished fifth, ahead of Barnard and Drugovich, who made an impressive debut with Mahindra.
Having been involved in an incident with Bird, Mueller moved up the order to finish eighth, with da Costa and Sergio Sette Camara having completed the top ten.
