Former Williams driver Logan Sargeant secures Ford Hypercar Drive in major career reset
Ford has confirmed the signing of former Williams Formula 1 driver Logan Sargeant to its factory Hypercar programme in the FIA World Endurance Championship, marking a significant new chapter for the American racer after his departure from F1.
The announcement was made during Ford Racing’s launch event in Detroit, where the manufacturer outlined its expanded ambitions for the WEC’s top category. Sargeant will join established Ford drivers Mike Rockenfeller and Sebastian Priaulx as part of the marque’s LMDh effort.
Sargeant, now 25, competed in 36 Grands Prix for Williams across the 2023 and 2024 seasons. His time in Formula One was marked by flashes of potential but also inconsistency, culminating in his replacement for the final nine rounds of the 2024 campaign.
Following his exit, Sargeant began rebuilding his career in endurance racing. He took part in the WEC rookie test in Bahrain and made several appearances in the IMSA SportsCar Championship’s LMP2 class, gaining valuable mileage in multi‑class racing and prototype machinery.
Full‑Time Sportscar Switch Begins in 2027Ford confirmed that Sargeant will transition into a full‑time sportscar role from 2027, aligning with the manufacturer’s long‑term commitment to its LMDh programme. His background in high‑downforce, high‑complexity F1 machinery is seen as a strong asset as Ford targets competitiveness in the increasingly crowded Hypercar field.
“Logan brings a level of technical sophistication and high‑downforce experience that is vital for a programme of this scale,” said Ford LMDh chief Dan Sayers. “Having an American back in a Ford at Le Mans feels right. It’s a nod to giants like Dan Gurney and AJ Foyt, who showed the world in 1967 what happens when American grit meets global ambition.”
Sargeant’s signing reflects Ford’s intention to strengthen its identity within the WEC paddock. With the Hypercar class attracting major manufacturers, the addition of a young American driver with F1 experience offers both competitive and marketing value — particularly as Ford seeks to reconnect with its storied Le Mans heritage.
