Renault's interesting statistics

By on

The Renault F1 Team has had an exceptional start to the 2006 season, and the numbers tell an interesting story. The first important one is ’26’ as in ‘R26’ and ‘RS26’. The chassis-engine package is delivering on the promises made at its launch back in June. It has won 5 from 7 races, taken 4 pole positions and 2 fastest laps.

Its drivers have scored nine podiums, and started from the front row six times. The two race-cars have completed nearly 4000 km, of which over 1300 km were spent leading a Grand Prix. With a total of 91 points from 126 possible, the Renault F1 Team’s scoring rate is now 72% - compared to 60% at the same stage last year.

In terms of scoring percentages, world champion Fernando Alonso is also out-performing his own 2005 benchmark. The Spaniard has taken seven podiums in seven races, including four victories. With 64 points from a possible 70, he has a 91% scoring rate! Monaco marked his 13th consecutive podium – second on the all-time list, but some way behind Michael Schumacher’s record of 19 from 2001 to 2002. As for Giancarlo Fisichella, he has scored 27 points – which puts him in third position in the championship, with a scoring record of 39% (compared to 24% in 2005). He has won one race in Malaysia, where he also started from pole, and scored a podium finish in Barcelona.

In two weeks’ time, the team will have the chance to further improve its stats - and they will be looking to pounce on every opportunity!
