Speed is the curcial factor - Heidfeld

Currently, the BMW Sauber F1 Team is testing at Monza, the fastest circuit on the 2007 Formula One calendar. However, at the pinnacle of motor racing, speed is not the only crucial factor when it comes to the on-track race action, says Nick Heidfeld.

The current BMW Sauber F1 Team tests are being conducted at Italy's 'Autodromo Nazionale di Monza'. At no other track in Formula One are the top speeds as high as those achieved as those on the Italian track which will host the forthcoming Italian Grand Prix. Therefore, you might say that the circuit is a true symbol of what is crucial at the pinnacle of motor racing: extreme speed.

"Speed is the crucial factor," says Heidfeld. "My job is all about speed. Actually, everything in Formula One has to be quick. The pit stops and the decisions - the same applies to our travelling, speaking, thinking. Our time always is limited."

The on-track speed, however, is merely the result of a long development chain, started and executed by the BMW Sauber F1 Team employees working in Munich and Hinwil. "The most crucial factor certainly is speed in development," concludes Nick. "You have to have a good pace and consistently enhance the car, all the time."
