I want to secure my maiden F1 win next year - Heidfeld

Nick Heidfeld has been racing in Formula One since 2000. In 2008, the BMW Sauber F1 Team driver hopes to make a dream come true. At the same time, he isn't worried about the abolition of electronic driver aids next season.

This year, Nick has experienced his most successful season to date at the pinnacle of motor racing. Having scored 56 World Championship points so far, he currently holds fifth position in the Drivers' Championship. Furthermore, twice this season he has secured a podium finish.

When it comes to the next two years, Nick hopes for more progress, and here he reveals his ambitious goals: "I want to secure my maiden Formula One win next year, and I'd love to add many more victories to my tally," says Heidfeld. "Then, in 2009, we want to become a factor in the battle for the title. It will be difficult but we have the chance of doing so."

The rule changes coming in to force next year don't worry Nick. Electronic driver aids such as traction control will be abolished. "This means that the importance of the drivers' skills will be increased," says Nick. "There are drivers that aren't that happy with the new regulations. Maybe they have their problems to cope with them. However, I think the changes are good and I am already looking forward to the new season. For us, it is advantageous that we have already tested with regard to the new season and pressed ahead with the development of the new car."
