Single lap qualifying to be scrapped

By on

There had been quite some fuss about the new qualifying format of 2004. The new system was doomed boring, with every driver allowed only two quick laps in a 2 hour period.Bernie Ecclestone and the teams seem to have come to an agreement now, which will introduce two 20min sessions

The new qualifying format will include two seperate 20 minute qualifying sessions, seperated from each other by a 20 minute break.

Each competitor must complete six laps in each session, with the grid then decided on aggregated times, and teams are free to run whatever fuel they like.

Cars will only enter parc-ferme after qualifying.

It seems likely at the moment that the Silverstone GP of 9-11 July will see the introduction of the new system.
