Turkey GP preview

By on

August 21, the first GP on the new circuit in Turkey will find place. Nobody, not even the circuitbuilders, know what to expect. Track creator Hermann Tilke, who also penned Sepang, Shanghai, Bahrain and the new Hockenheim, says he is 'a bit nervous'.

Tilke: "There are so many things that can go wrong. It's only after the first race that we'll be able to make a judgement of what it's like."

It is rather certain however that a visit to Turkey in summer will be very hot and maybe top some warmth records for Formula One. The event is expected to be even warmer than last Hungarian GP.

The new circuit is somehow alike other modern circuits with challenging corners and in the best way possible optimised to allow overtaking as much as possible. The difference however is that the area is rather hilly, resulting in quite some level differences during one lap.

Nick Heidfeld for one has already stated he expects to be on form in Turkey after having performed well at other hilly venues.
