Jacques Villeneuve slams Button

Jacques Villeneuve has slammed Jenson Button for breaking his 2006 Williams contract and believes it could cost him more than the multi-million pounds he has to pay to Williams. For the second time in as many years Button has been at the centre of a contract wrangle involving BAR and Williams with the Brit contract to one team for the following season but wanting to drive for the other.

Unlike the first tussle which only ended when F1's Contract Recognition Board told Button he could either drive for BAR or not drive at all, this time round the matter was settled out of court and for cash. Although neither party has confirmed the report, it is thought that Button could have to pay as much as £20m out of his own pocket to get out of the Williams contract. However, according to his former BAR team mate, Jacques Villeneuve, that may not be all this latest saga costs Button.

Jacques Villeneuve "Jenson is out to do what's best for Jenson, obviously. Why would another team want to sign a contract with him now because obviously contracts mean very little to him?"
