Dreadful pace. Is the car damaged or something?
No they're just overheating the rear left within a few laps.

At this point it looks like Russell is just managing the entire stint to make it to the end in P5.
I was hoping this but not even

What an embarrassing slow pace it’s a real nightmare #-o

No it's struggling in the heat once again. This probably could be engine related because the car is struggling with not only with the track surface but how intense warm the air is all around. The tyres, are only part of the issue.
Didn’t they had a new engine cover for this?
They bolted on the older spec for FP2. Seems like the issue with the Merc is the internal cooling.

30+ secs to Ferrari? The car has to have damage or issues. There’s just no way.

I suspect they've had a mare with set up again on top of the usual issues.

A conundrum of issues.

Biggest issue was definitely the engine overheating along with the tyres overheating slightly.

When the air is really hot the Mercedes is very restricted in pace and somehow the McLarens aren’t? This is the only Merc powered car within an engine failure or engine temp overload, why is that?

Tyres cooling and setup is one thing but it may seem like the custom radiator design, along with the engine cover, The Mcl39 allows the engine to work in a normal operating window no matter the conditions.

Mercedes are restricted because they’re limited to extract a lot of pace because the radiators are not proving the right amount of cooling for the car to work effectively in conditions where it’s not optimal. A common issue in the hybrid-era for the Brackley based squad.

This was essentially a copy-and-paste of the Imola race. An abrasive track combined with high temperatures, and our car simply has no pace. Nothing surprising there; those are inherent flaws somewhere in the car. It would be foolish to keep updating it in an attempt to fix this issue.

Please move on and focus on next year. I don't want to see any more updates coming to this car after Silverstone.

But if they don’t, they may carry over this problem to next year’s car. The suspension design will be similar to these year cars no? It was much worse here than in Imola…we weren’t 30+ seconds down to Ferrari. The car’s current weakness is tracks with all corner profiles (Slow, med and high speed), abrassive tarmac and temps. Surely, this isn’t a aero issue, correct?

Honestly, I have no idea what the exact problem is. But based on statements from both Toto and George, it’s clear the issue is the combination of an abrasive track and high temperatures. I just read an interview Krone did with Toto today, and he basically confirms that we've already shifted focus to next year’s car — so whatever the issue is, it won't be fixed on this year’s car.

In Styria, the Mercedes team boss revealed that his team is no longer developing the current car. "Most of the top teams are already 100 percent focused on next year. There will be upgrades before the summer and specifically for Monza, but I would be surprised if there is more to come," he said. Only a small group of Mercedes employees, known as the “Navy Seals”, are still working on the optimal implementation in the current season.

Its so strange, Ferrari was suffering with the SF-23 with the tyres and fixed it for the SF-24. They had an AHA moment that season. We haven’t been able to get on top of it for 2 straight seasons.
