Teams don't get suspicious when Newey goes in another direction. THEY BECOME AFRAID!
This is just a sensationalist assumption.
No real engineer who knows his stuff will feel and work like this.
This year clearly shows he alone is not a guarantee for success....
Also, other engineers know because they actually learned what they are doing and why in their own designs, and how other directions simply are not better, you have to design the whole car as one complete unit.
There is a reason why Newey walks the grid and looks at all the other cars at every race... he knows other teams are just as capable and he shall learn from them.
If I recall correctly it was stated by some TV reporter or so, that Newey personally prefer this underbite inlet style. If you look at Redbull from 2022 to 2024 I think you can see it, and then they changed it for overbite inlet when Newey started losing his credibility in the team.
He doesn't care one way or another about the size or shape of the inlet. It all comes down to where they want to direct the clean airflow.
It's funny you mention the 2024 car because it had almost no inlet at all. They prioritized getting clean air over the top, even extending the upper surface of the sidepod to take advantage of it. The air intake was essentially an L rotated about 45 degrees: a very narrow slot across the top and another running down the side of the chassis. That design pulled the dirty air into the sidepod while also cleaning up the airflow underneath it.
Newey never lost credibility with the team. He left of his own accord. In fact, Horner fought hard to maximize Newey's gardening leave, even taking him to court in an attempt to stop him from joining AMR in March 2025. That doesn't sound like someone whose technical input had lost its value.
Please do not make up your own facts.
