Mercedes AMG F1 W03

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Plus Barcelona tyre specs was I think hard & soft while they could run supersoft during winter tests.

Yes, that explains almost everything, i swear that didn't remind this detail

In a "race Weekend" you must focus the setup for the race and that setup must be the same in qualifying.

But 1.5s is still a hell of a gap don´t you think?
Being a racing driver means you are racing with other people. And if you no longer go for a gap that exists, you are no longer a racing driver because we are competing, competing to win...

The photos of the rear posted earlier today show the mini DDD a bit better. I'm sure it is blown from the starter hole. Anyone venture a guess as to how beneficial this bit might be? 1-2 points maybe?

I am curious how much extra that is adding. Is it more or less than a monkey seat wing? Surely it is less draggy.

@VarioR: if winter test time was done in s-soft, it could by itself explained 1s.
Plus the setup, plus the aero config (cirrusflyer talked about the gils), plus the fact that track was far from green, etc.

It is really not such a big difference.

Hulkenberg did 1:20.614 in 2010 WT. He qualified in 1.22.1 3 month later, 1.5s difference too.

08:33 @eddstrawF1 has news from Mercedes: Yesterday's problem was a gearbox issue. The team was disappointed to miss out on running but is content with progress overall and planning a race simulation if all goes well.

I just remembered that during Barca teams had separate qualy maps which gave them 0.5s extra so that Pole time Would probably be around 1.20.5 without. The 1.5s RBR-Mclaren will miss, they will probably gain a bit from an improved car & better tyres but I doubt if they will get all.

So High 1-20's I expect the Pole time to be. W03 should be competitive,I hope.

Edit - Not so promising,MSC doing 1-31 & 1-32 laps.

From looking at it at this perspective, it appears to be adding maybe 5% volume to the diffuser. If it's not worth at least a tenth I would be surprised. So say about 3 points.

Yes. Webber did a 1.30.8, Michael a 1.32.4.

I do expect RBR to get quicker & Renault engine requires less power so that makes is RBR even quicker at the start of race. But this big a gap???

Webber with 1.28.3 while Michael with 1.29.6. That is 1.3s down on RBR.

Damn this is a repeat of last year.

You're reading too much into it, Schumacher is still out, lapping in he 1:29.6's and Webber has pitted.
