Mercedes AMG F1 W03

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Why not have a seperate duct just for the rear wing blowing? There are three inlets on the car in the same area.

They can still have the DRS open at low speed though. I think that although this might make sense I think they can do something better with it.

Red: what about the silver things behind. Could be connectors too.

Blue: could also be channels...

Another shot of proposed duct system. Not sure how much the pic shows though.

Siver parts are likely connecters for the pins to structurally connect the nose and front wing. The blue doesn't look like anything to me.

That carbon cover is certainly hiding something. Maybe a linked suspension...

What if the duct is strictly for the rear wing only...and is used when DRS isn't being used. A normal F-Duct as used in the past, that is better than nothing but not as good as when DRS is active? I just can't see how (even in Scarb's diagram) they are getting the air to the front wing effectively.

I think that FW duct and RW duct work separately...

I think the structure gets hold above the red circles where the carholder (or what it is called) is mounted.

The blue ones im not sure.

I see no need for an f-ducy when the wing is open, so why would they have one? :wtf:
After all, apart from quali, the DRS can only be used if they manage to catch up on a car ahead. :P :P
But all this talk is only speculation. Wouldn't it be nice if we talked about actual facts?

the silver things you see are the torsion bars -swivelaxles for the suspension rockers.
The nose cone fitting points are used by the black rig chassis support ...

behind the carbonfibre plate you can see the hydraulic reservoirs poking out beneath the carbon fibre thingy is just a neat fixation for those. The steering rack effectively is in front of the tub just look how far forward the stteering rods poke through the monocoque .

the middle thing at the bottom AMPhenol/military style connector .just count the sensors you use on the wing tyre temps ,maybe straingauges ride height, accelerometers. ..there is a lot to measure and I don´t think they have time to change add additional harness in the main tub from fP1 to FP3 ..

I agree with Smikle. I bet the two systems are independant from one another yet the flow between the two systems is tuned and balanced to be beneficial when DRS is open. Brilliant.
