Mercedes AMG F1 W03

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

That tube was not in place in Australia, but the body panel did have an indentation for it at that time.

For calculation purposes: The tube is the same size as a exhaust primary? What speed for the car, 60-70 m/s?

Is it pressure or flow that allows the FW slot to be blown? A burst of pressure/flow would not sound very good for balance. The benefit to the FW has to be timed to match the DRS sequencing.

Mercedes DRS Hole

Post

What is the flow going to be like at the Mercedes DRS Hole? This hole is flush with the endplate. What do we know about air flow over a small opening like this? Will it draw air flow out or promote air flow into the hole?

On the top-side of the wing is always a high pressure area, so I don't think that air is getting out of the hole.

I just watched Schu's final qualy lap and slowed down the footage outside the car just before the final hairpin in Malaysia. I watched it frame by frame a few times and I very much believe Schu is shutting DRS off just a hair before hitting the brakes. I suppose this is due to air reattachment.

Steve Matchett discussed this on the American broadcast. He commented that it looked like Merc had induced a little bit of roll into the car, the benefit being more mechanical grip.

This is stated frequently, but it seems odd that they can not slow the wing closing so as to control any reattachment issues.... IF the issue actually exist!

Where is Xpensive to talk about detail now, the car is on par with Mclaren in that department.

The sea change in the build department has been most remarkable. Whether they are on a par with McLaren is debatable, but nevertheless, it doesn't erase the poor build quality we've seen over the past couple of years from existence.

I believe that's thanks to Mr. Costa. Ferrari's build quality seems to have taken an equivalent nose dive since his departure.

why does the car seem to have no downforce? even the mid field teams were miles faster than both mercs in sector 2.

even force india seem to have a much better car than mercedes.. has there ever been a works team thats slower than everyone it supplies engines to?

Near the end MS was getting faster.

I think they gambled and went for a 100% dry setup.

As a side note - nice to see NR completely outclassed again!
