that was before the race. After the race he said that the strategy for Lewis was a two stop -- Option-Prime-Option. Just like Niko in Bahrain and Spain.myurr wrote:He awkwardly denied knowing the strategy and ended up saying that a two stop was impossible, which is demonstrably false. Other's ran far longer in the 2nd stint that Lewis would have had to.deterherligt wrote:Didnt Paddy say on Sky that Lewis was on a two-stop? In that case he had to overtake Niko. Fair enough. Lewis said on the radio the tyres were good so I presumed they pitted as a precaution rather than because they had to. Bet they could have stretched it. Ricciardo managed it on tyres that were 9 laps older!deterherligt wrote:that was before the race. After the race he said that the strategy for Lewis was a two stop -- Option-Prime-Option. Well, I am not impressed. SV made one more pit stop than Alono. If he didn't? RB had the pace, it was quite obvious.kaido wrote:WOW! i was actually impressed with Ferrari today, The car look half decent had the pace and was making overtakes! Is this a slight turn around for the car or did the track just suit us better?
Even with the bad qualifying and 5 second penalty Alonso looked quick! definitely not Merc quick but still looked like an improvement
yeah, he could probely have done it in a one stop. But we will never know. Maybe he used his primes to much catching Niko in his second stint, so he had to have another stop. Also, as the primes showed to be the best race tire, his strategy would have been a two stop with prime in the end in all cases.myurr wrote: Fair enough. Alonso overtook Vettel on lap 34, it wasn't until lap 47 that Vettel overtook Alonso, Vettel tyres where 7 laps newer. It pretty much only took Alonso one shot to get Vettel but it took Vettel 13 laps to get Alonso.Traction wrote:Loved the race. Well done to Lewis even if he won by virtue of Rosbergs retirement. I suppose you have to be there to benefit from others misfortune.
Alonso was superb through the race but it all meant nothing when he was reminded by Vettel why Seb is a 4 time WDC.great racing , wheel to wheel stuff. Although both of them should have just shut up and raced I think it was Alonso who cried the most. Strange how upset he became when he was showed up by Seb in a straight up battle.
It took SV 13 laps to overtook alonso, SV tyres where newer (7laps) compare to Alonso, plus the RB seems to be alot faster towards the end of the races.tpe wrote:Well, I am not impressed. It's this sort of thing that makes him stand out. Screw the rubbish about transcending the cars abilities. ..bhall II wrote:Oh, hell, yeah. I don't know what corner number it's considered now on the new layout, but I got a little moist when Alonso pantsed Vettel around the outside of old turn-1.
Rosberg, who retired on lap 28 of 52, said the problem had been serious from lap 20, and before the gearbox failed he was considering conceding to Hamilton and focusing on keeping the car in the race.
I Wanted to post exactly the same quotekaido wrote:Also to the people saying Lewis was gaining on Nico after the pitstops maybe this may explain why Lewis started to close the gap

Possibly, but he also set his fastest lap of the race at the exact same time as Hamilton on lap 26 - which was still quick enough to be the 3rd fastest of anyone. Hamilton was gaining on Nico before lap 20 (which was after his first stop on lap 18), gaining at around 0.5 seconds a lap at that point, and was keeping pace with him within a tenth or two thereafter even though Nico was on new tyres. So any issues Nico had were after that pattern of pace had been set.kaido wrote:Also to the people saying Lewis was gaining on Nico after the pitstops maybe this may explain why Lewis started to close the gap

It certainly didn't help Rosberg's pace but we have no evidence either way as to whether it really held him up or not. Given the hard tyre seemed to be the better race tyre at that stage I suspect not but can't definitively prove it.
