McLaren MP4-29 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Is it wrong that I really like the 2011 Mclaren sidepods?

I hope not because so do I...
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Today, in the second day of testing, Mclaren was working at the rear of the car. They were refining the last concept at the rear suspension and also little tweaks to the diffuser.

He's probably counting the removal of their FRIC System as an update :) , so I wouldn't get too excited...

You're wrong. He said this before the all FRIC ban situation.

lol, now that someone has said the obvious, the unusual might actually happen - i.e. they actually produce a visibly different upgrade that decently improves performance.

You are both sick. The 2011 Mclaren was uglier than a 2014 car.

We had a nice discussion of the Meredith Effect, but it was bogging down this thread. There's not necessarily a clean way to break this off, but the posts that described it in general and compared cars were put into the dedicated Meredith Effect and sidepod design thread. http://www.f1technical.net/forum/viewto ... =6&t=15179

Slight change to the front wing that I just noticed that looks like it was introduced at silverstone. At the bottom of the back of the endplate on the front wing the flick out seems to be larger.

There's a new series of strakes on the RWEP and a new rear wing.
