Wow, is that legal? Could they use it to gain some sort of advantage?

lol

I doubt it's anything special. Just extra cooling for some electronics down there.

Think its just a slot cooling something.... Because no other team have one like this?

Am I the only one who really liked the unpainted carbon on the new Haas nose?

Well seeing how the car has to be legal to be a part of the test, yes it is legal.

Many(if not all) teams have an extra duct to cool the electronics. Haas is only unique in that it has a dedicated opening in the sidepod, instead of having a duct in the sidepod intake

Apart from the requirement of homologated crash tested components, I don't think there is a requirement that the cars are legal in testing.

I've heard of teams using active suspension in testing for constant speed aero runs so that they can measure downforce at a number of different ride heights without having to return to the pits each time.

Its cooling, a crude form as many of the more established teams run their cooling for electronics from ducts inside their side pods.

Yes you're right, I just remembered the Williams using illegal wing elements on the floor in testing last year.

Im sure these test issues are very frustrating to the haas program, but are they at least getting the benefit of exercising the mechanics ability to quickly and effectively diagnose/repair problems in a time critical setting? Will this experience help them on race weekends when there's an issue that must be turned around quickly?

Or do they practice this stuff regularly in the shop?

So what.

Ferrari let Haas use a 3d scanner on their car, perfectly legal.
