I know it's a bit ridiculous coming back to this car 2 years after it started dominating the field, but I have to say I've realised just how far ahead Mercedes were in this period with their chassis (looking just at their aero). Haven't been able to follow car development as close as I wanted to in 2015 and 2016, but seeing barge board development direction on all cars from a year ago up to now - it's staggering just how brutal W07 was.
Of course, their engine allowed them to have a draggier car than competition, but barge boards were so much smaller then and their influence on overall drag was as well. This is why I am even more amazed why other teams left this area so underdeveloped compared to Mercedes.
