Scuderia Ferrari SF71H

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter does not belong here.

Notice that it does not immediately obstruct the camera, there is a hole cut out in the housing. Other teams use similar devices.

Both examples would block line-of-sight between camera and steering wheel.

Tea-tray extension. Note similar guide vanes to direct air under the bargeboards.

SF71H bodywork relatively simple compared to the rest of the field *except* for the edges of the floor, where they have surpassed McLaren, even.

Bit of trailing-edge region flow separation showing the rw flap is running at/very close to its limit in terms of usable AoA.

Looks like a near vertical vortex forms inside the endplate, sprouting from the first main louvre.

Vortexes form at the tip of a surface though. This highlighted area just indicates laminar upwash.

Any updates planned for Russia?

Mercedes made a big step in Singapore. Ferrari need to respond!

Any updates they present in Russia are a product of weeks (if not months) of research and manufacture. It is impossible to "respond" with updates.

I bet those fins work pretty well. Considering they would fill pretty much all of the small gap between the brake shroud drums and the wheel, and spin upwards of 3k RPM. I'm still curious as to whether ambient temperature air or heated brake disc exhaust flows through this small gap. Brake drum/cake tin designs seem to vary quite a lot, and sometimes it looks like ambient air is being ducted in, and other times it looks like brake disc exhaust is being vented there. Usually people say they're trying to heat the wheels in order to heat the tires, others say they're trying to cool the tires by cooling the wheels.
