2014 PU... tailpipes arent those for pulse turbo engine like now.

This is more plausible. There is a thermal barrier between the rim and the hub; the spacer. And the spacer due to thermal expansion or creep, it requires cooling. This is more logical than the air cooling the rim.

Super close-up [open in a new tab] of the 2018 F1 front wing endplate tunnels. We will miss those in 2019 :mrgreen: Seems that Mercedes applied some teflon on the slots edges to prevent tyre marbles to fill the gap.

I prefer the smoother, pointier nose from 2015 onwards. So clean, so beautiful!

Mercedes are actually evolving the new wheel hub design! Though they did not use it in Brazil, the work on improving the feature continues. They most certainly looks like are going to use that in Abu Dhabi.

The interesting aspect of Interlagos is that the rims have been modified with a reduction in the number of holes but with a larger diameter, changing the flow pattern thanks to the flares that have favored the extraction of the air.

Probably a stupid question, but Why don't they just have the aero of the car blow some air towards the rear tyres to cool them?

I think its more a case of, blowing air at the tyres will increase drag a fair bit, and its also air that you would usually used to feed the rear of the car and produce downforce.

Not sure that's true at all. You could easily arrange for air to flow on to the rear tyres but doing so would rob other areas of that air. That would probably lead to a loss of downforce and an increase in drag.

Of course, the reality is that the tyres have plenty of air going across them - they don't run in a vacuum - but it is better to limit heat gain rather than try to remove heat once its there.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

That is the HPP site so I'd guess that's the PU arm of the team, yes.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.
