Mercedes-AMG F1 W10 EQ Power+

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter does not belong here.

Wow, Merc really has the flow under that winglet at the front of the cockpit turning hard.

Looks like flow-viz on the front wing. Love these overhead shots.
Indeed so. Look at how the airflow on top of the first element is flowing outwards towards the endplate.
Very interesting actually. Need to look at other angles to understand what forces the air flow that way. Looks unnatural from this angle.
My guess, spanwise flow

Yes, and an added benefit is that is helps with internal airflow - the expanded end helps evacuate air coming from the coolers and engine

My first reaction with that flow paint is that I feel sorry for the poor (junior) mechanic that has to clean it all off....

It looks like more than one mechanic had fun 'painting' it on...

I don't think that was illusion. It was very clear in the earlier pictures. Might be that, Mercedes is testing different bits.
I was looking to the pictures in Silverstone and i don't see any difference. What bulges are you guys talking?
At the launch there was this bulge on both pushrods. Some thought it was a cover for some sort of pivot but it looks more to me like a kind of sensor/camera housing or just a diversion tactic.
Maybe a special test-only load cell?

Or perhaps a little hydraulic actuator for changing ride height on the track? Those things are never legal during races, but teams often run automatic ride-height changers during testing to get through more settings in the scarce track time.

Or maybe an optical illusion due to the a number of bits getting in the way my fellow Dallasite

They had to open up bodywork despite the cool temps? damn, they are already borderline on cooling?

They could just be verifying how wide open cooling performs, not that they need it now necessarily.

The Ferrari is running with shoulder vents similar to those too. Maybe they're already overheating too...?
