At first I tought so as well, and it would be legal to use the same monocoque since there are no rule changes like the addition of the Halo. But then I went looking to see if there were any aero bits attached there, and what I found is that the same attachment points were there last year, but they were also left blank.

so could that actually mean they're using the same monocoque design for a 3rd season now?
or even worse - could they be using the literal same monocoque for the 3rd season? so one that was made in 2017?
No, may be similar to the 2018 one but it is new. Definitely NOT the 2017 chassis, the sidepods/impact structures and bulkhead are completely different.

They dont want to generate vortices with the upper wishbone joint. Likewise for ferrari with the rear wishbones. So they bulk and round these areas to have smoother flow. Also, these elements have an aerodynamic role. They also pitch a lot relative to the rest of the car, and rounder and bigger edges will make them have smoother and more predictable stall characteristics. So in essence these bulky parts make the car more predictable overall (the transient aero loads), while having cleaner flow downstream.

Isn't the thickness simply because there is a minimum ratio of thickness to 'width' for these suspension components, which means that if you want an airfoil shape/width, it will have to be thicker too?

Twitter reports say car looks nervous, no wonder though with the lack of testing and parts missing.
