Red Bull RB16

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Wow, it's just a channel between engine cover and sidepod.

Not a “fair” comparison. On the Red Bull the whole sidepod slopes down, whereas on the Mercedes it’s just a section.

The Sidepod shape is very weird. It's not really exactly like Mercedes's last year, but I am assuming they are trying to achieve the same thing. Instead of "sending" the air around the sidepod to the rear-end, perhaps it is better to make a straight path for it over the sidepod, since the air probably loses less energy this way? Interesting concept, let's see how it turns out.
