Ferrari SF1000

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

So that’s definitely a different radiator layout - see https://ibb.co/pR2xv2h for the old one.

Hmmm is it? I took it from this article https://it.motorsport.com/f1/news/f1-fe ... n=widget-1

Not saying you’re wrong - I just couldn’t tell - and seemed odd the article would use a picture of the old car.

Guess they didn't had a proper one of the SF1000. See the sidepod deflector on the left.

That's exactly why it's the sf1000. The sf90 has a connected deflector.

Hopefully, this is the situation. If they really lack 70 (or more) HP from the PU is gonna be a disaster for the entire season (and for the next one).

Yes, you’re right - I see the all red paint/Lenovo. Do we know what the radiators looked like before?

Not really just here. If there is truth to the radiator drag story we'll see them placing some on top of the engine together with a different airbox - something along the lines what Alfa has I imagine. This isn't the case yet.

This what is has been done on the cooling and gearbox area from 2019 to 2020;

The cooling system represented one of the toughest challenges for the Italians’ engineers as it had already been extreme enough before. However, to further enhance the aerodynamic efficiency of the car, every part of the cooling system had to be designed to be even tighter while some cooling elements have been lowered to further lower the car’s centre of gravity.

While Ferrari’s previous car, the SF90 was based around a low-drag concept, priority has been given to the aerodynamic downforce of the car. The rear bodywork on the Ferrari SF1000 is more tight-fitting than on the 2019 car, thanks to the work carried out on optimising the shape and layout of the components under the engine cover. The gearbox casing has been reduced in size to allow for this more extreme bodywork shape”

Anyway we could differentiate the HP deficit from the drag deficit using speed traces ?
Maybe comparing race traces with DRS and without DRS ?

the gearbox made slimmer for this year to help aerodynamics but resulted in it not being rigid enough and messing with rear suspension settings
What a mess!

Reliability and mechanical durability has to come first surely, even in F1? Cars that place aerodynamics first like the MP4/18 seem to result in all kinds of disaster.
