They will still be beaten handsomely.
Oh dear. I'm not sure if the Red Bull car is really too slow, or it is merely disadvantaged by low track temperatures and overly hard tyres?

S'funny how people are suddenly happy to see tyres that fall apart when only recently they were saying how rubbish the tyres are. because they fall apart.

Of course! At least neutral fans got a good show instead of a procession, which is what Liberty wants.

It is the same for everyone. Not anyone's fault if RedBull likes higher temperature / Merc likes lower. Tyres were crap and are still crap, but SAME for everyone.

It is all perspective, if their favorite driver or the dominant team loses even with rock solid tyres or falling apart tyres, they will go for what suits their agenda, so :D
Oh indeed. So long as it gives the outcome they want, they'll go for it.

I'd like tyres that can be driven hard by all drivers, not just some drivers. The championship is between teams and between drivers, not between tyres. The tyres shouldn't be the headline.

Max did a great job today, no doubt, and that was because his car allowed him to do so on those tyres as they behaved on the day.

But they don't fall apart at all, Red Bull had perfect tyre condition. They only fell apart on some badly engineered cars, cars without the Pierre Wache Red Bull chief suspension engineer tyre whispering witchcraft. :D
The tyres didn’t fall apart on Ferrari either it would seem. Nothing to do with suspension design, rather how you ran your rear wing this weekend I suspect.
Team ANTI-HYPE. Prove it, then I’ll anoint you.

Indeed, it should have been obvious to all teams that low rear wing to reduce the load in fast corners was the way to go (and be faster on the straights as well). Ferrari had the ace setup in the first British GP.

Badly engineered cars that have won 4 of the 5 races and 6 double world championships, while the car that won today has been sitting there waiting to pick up scraps!
With a bit of luck, Red Bull could have won the Austrian GP and British GP, to win 3 out of 5. Not bad at all for a car that is 1 second per lap off the pace in qualifying!

Max won that race by his instinctive "no, I'm not going to drive like a granny" response to the team's telling him to back off. If he had done so, Max might not have won that, or at least not so easily. A good racer's call there and then. Sometimes it bites you, sometimes it gets results.

The RedBull and Ferrari both seem to be easy on the tyres compared to the Mercs. Leclerc's pace was good at the end on very old tyres.
The Mercedes were quite quick in 2013 as well but were rubbish on their rubber. Seems to be the case this year, hopefully Red Bull developing the aero plus hotter temperatures and higher tire pressures evens things out and we can have a good championship. It's a bonus that the majority of the championship will be in hotter weather, as summer lasts into October. Plus finishing in the Middle East which is a desert.

Exactly, only the badly engineered cars that work the tyres too hard.
Is that the badly engineered car that everyone seems to have spent the early part of the season complaining was too good?

With a bit of luck! That's what a well engineered car need? Definitely not bad to win once in a while and losing championship after championship.

Can you believe people say the mercedes is the dominant car?! Hah. Jokers.

This is why Toto does not count his chickens before they hatch.
Nice comedy you've just written there. Lets instantly forget all previous results and -1s in quali. Lets also forget how cheese tyres were sole factor responsible for them losing this race.
As soon as we're back to just vaguely competent tyre selection they'll be back to cruising 10s ahead of Max.

Nice of pirelli to prevent a season clean sweep, but now please back to regular compound selection.
I don't agree Juzh, and not because of RB's win today. Except for the Hamilton fans, most of us would like to see unpredictable races.
I hate the lift and coast attitude, and only go full on for 6/7 laps per race.
Either increase the power to weight race hugely (so the car is less decisive, it's more on the driver), but that ain't happening. Screwing strategies over with tires that die off quickly would be another option.
But then again, who am I .. just riding a raised Hilux with balloon tires.

In my opinion he was also personally helped by a severe brain fade moment by the Mercedes strategy team. They could have esilly made it through Q2 on the hards just as Max did.

They also could have trimmed the car in a way to ensure it was easier on the tires because as was seen in qualifying they have an exceptional amount of pace over the rest of the field.

It's kind of like Germany last year. They seem to need a slap to the head every season to remind them they're not unbeatable.

But it smacks of "build the best car you can, but if you do it too well we'll find a way to artificially trip you up".

Ferrari were penalised far, far, far more by the whole race tyres in 2005. Ferrari went from a dominant car with the F2004, to a car that was amongst the midfield.

Lotus were hurt by their double chassis 88 being banned. Chapman was very unhappy about that, it set Lotus' car development back greatly indeed.

All the British garaiste teams, who were generally good at aerodynamics, were compromised by the flat floor rule in 1983. The rule was very much to the advantage of Renault and Ferrari.

It is entirely normal that technical regulation changes be made for political reasons in Formula One!
