On this picture I dont se burnt paint as a result of high temps inside the sidepods. I belive this is the result of coanda effect as hot gases are attached on to the body and by that they burn the paint. From this picture you can actualy see how and where thos hot gases are travelling. Am I wrong?
You mean another form of flo-vis

Not realy. Flow-wise ether you use or not. Hot gasses are there. If they would use bigger black pannels, marks wouldnt be seen. There is this one black pannel going from exhoust backvards where they predict the main hot flow will be.
About Coanda. I watched a film once on Discovery. He experimented with "jet" engen on aircraft and flames kindofa stiked to the body. Wood, paper and flames dont mix well...
This looks similar.

They have to use last year's FW for benchmarking purposes, I believe Michael ran it yesterday as well.

yeah..this is last years wing? why would they be using it? to compare the performance data against the new one. that is what i would assume. or maybe Rosberg does not like a pointy car, assuming the new wing gives way more DF :D

old wing with duck nose?
ok if you really want to have a better description(to the best of my abilities)

They had to lower the nose to comply with this years regs(duck nose, platypus face, Mosquito beak...whatever :) ), BUT then in the same breath, the front wing panels, sections, shape and endplates are from last years front wing...better ?

They might be doing this (and its just my guess) to get a comparison between last years fron wing (panels and endplates), and this years...

As I said, they used the old wing yesterday as well-

Probably for benchmarking and data comparison, as others have pointed out.

Was just kidding
What with changes from the normal to duck/whatever nose, wouldn't the airflow/characterstics differ? So was wondering if it's like comparing apples vs oranges?

Yes I have to say I have been thinking the same thing, however; would that also explain the burnt bit almost at floor level? Do you think there is a vortex that brings the exhaust plume that far down/in?

wel...with the adoption of the 2012 nose, they can actually (again just in my opinion) compare apples vs apples. the airflow on a 2011 nose would obviously be different from the 2012 one. so this would give better feedback i think, hence the reason they are doing it

they used last years FW to compare with this year's 3element wing. also maybe they will use last years wing on low DF circuits like monza canada etc.
