Red Bull RB8 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Watch F1 on TV

Is that a longer DRS flap than usual I spy?

He was complaining at Bahrain as well, and despite eventually getting the right balance on race day at the other venues he's been talking about balance during the practice sessions at pretty much all the GP except Australia (if memory serves). He was just particularly vocal in Spain.

To get vaguely back on topic we saw Red Bull slip back a bit in Spain, despite upgrades making it on to the car. Are they having correlation issues, have they just gone in the wrong direction with the car, or was it just a off performance?

It can't just be tyres though as they struggled to get into Q3, with Vettel burning all three sets of options just to make it to the final qualifying session. And whilst it was a tactical mistake that kept Webber from making it in to Q3 he didn't make any progress in the race.

He wasn't complaining in the first three races. Can we get back to the RB8?

The RB8s exhaust has evolved yet again.

Funny enough, the evolution is basically just Saubers old exhaust.

The dramatic drop in height after the exhaust exits we saw in Barcelona are now less steep and it basically just looks like the last evolution of Saubers rendition of the exhaust solution.

Do you have pics Grizzle? I'd like to better see what you mean. I think Red Bull probably won't be playing with their tunnel sidepod this race - much more laptime to be gained by driver rhythm and confidence rather than an aero gain by the tunnel.

Nah - at least I see it. Clear pictures can wait. FOM always release shots.

They did - for the first three races. It was only in Bahrain they realised it was choking and blocked it off.

Yeah I know they used it mate. I'm talking about the last couple of races where they've used in in free practice but not in the race itself. Maybe they've developed it enough to now use it all weekend compared to the last couple of GP's.

The question is did they bring it at all? I'm not sure Monaco is the place to try out new parts and sidepods

That looks like the pre-Barca sidepod. The ones they raced in Barca. No?

What that pic of the front of the red bull doesn't show is the kind of "hump" at the upper frontal and surrounding area of the exhaust channel which was a talking point of Saubers latest rendition of this style of exhaust.
